how do you clean a rusty Vintage Camera?
I recently won a graflex Speed Graphic camera 4x5 on ebay, its pretty dirty has rust on the leather handle the Range Finder is pretty gross too the leather is sticky too. I want to use it but id like to clean it up first without damaging it does anyone know the safest and best way to clean it?
Hi Dino,
I work at a photography shop, and we use windex a LOT to clean plastic or glass surfaces. There is also a product called goo gone that we use to get adhesive off, and we also use simichrome to clean metal surfaces - it's what bikers use to clean the chrome parts of their hogs!
For the leather surfaces I would recommend Armor All, and for really bad stains there is a product called Goof Off that Works Great.
Make sure you don't use the Goof Off on plastic because it will melt it. Also I would test any cleaner on a small inside portion of the camera first to make sure it will not cause damage.
Also, cotton balls and q-tips are your friend!
